FORMER South African president Jacob Zuma's recent meeting with fugitive Ajay Gupta in India has sparked outrage and calls for an investigation, raising serious questions about diplomatic protocols and accountability in the wake of the State Capture scandal.

Zuma was accompanied by the High Commissioner of South Africa to India, Professor Anil Sookhlal to the temple.

Last week, a photograph shared on social media of the trio at the Siddhpeeth Shri Dakshin Kali Mandir in Haridwar, India, sparked outrage, with various stakeholders calling on the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) to investigate.

Gupta, and his brothers Atul and Rajesh, who are alleged to have siphoned billions of rands from South Africa's State coffers during Zuma's presidency- fled to Dubai in 2018 amid “State Capture” investigations.
