Arsenal Wenger is backing France to win the World Cup and believes only one other team poses a threat. The former Arsenal boss believes Spain could threaten Les Bleus' opportunity of claiming success later this month.
France last won the tournament in 2018 and fell at the final hurdle against Argentina last time out. Spain, meanwhile, have been able to progress further than they have managed in the competition since claiming victory in 2010. Los Rojos are the current European champions, however.
Despite Wenger's confidence in his home nation, Luis de la Fuente's side have been the victors in the teams' last two meetings. Spain prevailed 5-4 in the Nations League semi-final and 2-1 in the Euro 2024 semi-final.
Wenger, FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development, appears confident that Didier Deschamps will lead France to glory. Though he does acknowledge that Spain are a technically better team.
"France will win the World Cup," Wenger told Sky Sports. "I know you will say, 'of course you say that, you’re French'.
