England take on Norway for a place in the World Cup semi-finals but all doesn't appear to be rosy10:25, 08 Jul 2026Updated 10:38, 08 Jul 2026Alexander Sorloth's father has revealed that the Atletico Madrid striker has been left 'irritated' of the eve of Norway 's World Cup clash with England. Former Norway international Goran Sorloth has claimed that Stale Solbakken's deployment of his son has irked the former Crystal Palace striker.‌Due to goalscoring powerhouse Erling Haaland, 25, leading the line, the striker has been forced to play out wide for Norway and was substituted during half-time of their famous 2-1 win over Brazil. The Manchester City star scored a match-winning double as the record holders were dumped out, setting up a mouthwatering showdown with 1966 World Cup winners, England.‌Ahead of the game, it has emerged that Sorloth, who made 20 appearances for Palace scoring just once, was left angered by the decision from Solbakken to bring him off at half-time for Fulham playmaker Oscar Bobb during the Round of 16 showdown.‌Goran told Dagbladet : "He gets irritated about being taken off, he should be every day all year round. Regardless of whether it's the World Cup, the European Championship or a regular international match."Despite being angered by Solbakken's decision, the forward's father insisted there was no love lost over the incident. He said: "I don't think there was a heated discussion with Stale Solbakken. They know each other so well that there was talk of exchanging things and things. They are still the best friends in the world. Together they believe that they can go far."The 30-year-old has failed to add to his 26 international goals at the World Cup as Norway embark on a historic run where they are within, at least, 90 minutes of a semi-final at the major tournament. England stand in their way (July 22, 10pm kick-off) after beating Mexico 3-2 at the Azteca Stadium on Monday with Thomas Tuchel's side needing to nullify Haaland if they are to continue their World Cup dream.‌The City forward has had an incredible tournament so far, becoming the driving force in their path as World Cup darkhorses. The 25-year-old is competing for the golden boot in the North American tournament as he sits just one goal off current pace-setter Lionel Messi, who inspired defending champions Argentina to a famous comeback win over Egypt with a goal and an assist in their 3-2 win.Miami, Florida plays host to the quarter-final but Norway's arrival in the Magic City has been described as a 'boys' trip' by Sorloth. A sickness bug threatens to derail their chances of creating fresh history on their landmark run at the World Cup.Shot-stopper Orjan Nyland claimed Norway's team doctor has been "very busy" days before the two European nations lockhorns.‌Nyland told James Corden: "I can confirm that it's true, we've had our issues, we're doing the best we can and the team doctor is very busy at the moment. I have no idea what the source was, we did have some time off so maybe someone contracted something."Hopefully everything goes well and we face England with a fully rested squad on Saturday."Dagbladet have reported that fatigue has played a role while illness has plagued the camp throughout the tournament. But the mind games surrounding the quarter-final continue to be at play as the Norwegian team doctor moved to play down any medical problems ravaging their preparations.‌He said: "Very little fuss considering that we have been close together for almost six weeks. So great that they believe this. We are in control."There will be more to follow on this breaking news story and Mirror Sport will bring you the very latest updates, pictures and video as soon as possible. Please check back regularly for updates on this developing story.Article continues belowFollow us on Google News, Flipboard, Apple News, Twitter, Facebook or visit The Mirror homepage.
