BBC Breakfast host Sarah Campbell interviewed Count Binface during Wednesday's show09:59, 08 Jul 2026Viewers of BBC Breakfast were left speechless during the latest live show.Hosts Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell returned to the red sofa on Wednesday (July 8) to deliver the day's biggest headlines from across the UK and around the world. They dedicated much of the show's coverage to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, after he announced his resignation as an MP for Clacton, which has triggered a by-election that he will stand in.Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats and the Greens have all agreed not to put up candidates in the by-election - meaning that the only confirmed challenger so far is satirical candidate Count Binface.Count Binface, aka comedian Jon Harvey, appeared on the latest instalment of BBC Breakfast, where Sarah asked him about his manifesto."What can you offer the people of Clacton? Have you ever been there?" Sarah asked, with Count Binface replying: "No, because I understand from the current incumbent that is part of how you do the job, so I deliberately stayed away. Is that how it works?"If I get the 10 nominations, because hey look, there's no guarantee I'm standing for the election as I'm sure you know. I'm game but I have to get the signatures from 10 local inhabitants, otherwise this is a non-starter. Then, of course, I will tailor my manifesto to the local area as always."But most of my national policies remain. Building at least one affordable house, nationalising Adele, bring back Ceefax, and of course, moving the hand dryer in the gents toilets in The Crown and Treaty pub [in] Uxbridge."Laughter could be heard in the BBC studio, but Sarah managed to keep a straight face while continuing to grill Binface on air. After acknowledging the 95 votes he received in the recent Makerfield by-election, Binface quipped: "What a gracefully scornful tone, how dare you!"At the end of the conversation, a speechless Jon said: "You weren't expecting that were you this morning?"Sarah replied: "I really wasn't expecting that!"It seems as though BBC viewers weren't expecting to see Binface on the programme either, as many issued complaints."WTF is this???" one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), while another added: "The world has gone crazy."A third said: "I can't believe she's asking him serious questions," while someone else commented: "The Clacton by-election has already descended into farce, with #BBCBreakfast doing a live interview, with serious questions getting wonderfully surreal answers from @CountBinface."A fifth viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: "Is this s**** for real? Does this masquerade as political journalism these days? An utter embarrassment," while another shared: "@BBCBreakfast You're a disgrace @BBCNews an interview with a bin!"Article continues belowBBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
