A 27-year-old professional soccer player is at the centre of a police investigation after authorities raised suspicions that his reported kidnapping may have been staged.
Mpumalanga police have confirmed that they are investigating a possible staged kidnapping involving a 27-year-old professional soccer player after he allegedly returned home unharmed seven days after his family reported him missing.
Police said the player's disappearance was reported by his family, who informed authorities that he had allegedly been kidnapped.
The identity of the soccer player has not yet been released.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said the player's family reported him missing after his next of kin indicated that he had been kidnapped. The player later returned home unharmed, seven days after his disappearance.
