For acclaimed poet, actress and storyteller Lebo Mashile, stepping into the shoes of Femina Rethabile Sithole, better known as Femi, in the psychological thriller Strung, was more than simply taking on another role.
It was the chance to embody a hardworking South African woman whose quiet resilience anchors a household consumed by darkness.
"This mama is a no-nonsense domestic worker who is all about her job, her money, and keeping the house clean in a family plagued by the darkest, filthiest secrets. Bringing her to life was a dream," Mashile said of the character.
The psychological thriller stars Chloe Bailey as Laila, a gifted violinist who accepts a prestigious job as a private music tutor for the daughter of a wealthy and enigmatic family.
