IHS Nigeria has completed a clean cooking initiative in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, distributing 10,000 liquefied petroleum gas cylinders to households as part of efforts to reduce dependence on firewood and charcoal.
The communications infrastructure company said the programme, known as Project Breathe Clean Air Abuja, was implemented in partnership with the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat and reached underserved communities across the territory’s six area councils.
The project concluded with a ceremony at the Bwari Area Council Stadium, where beneficiaries received LPG cylinders and refill vouchers under the final phase of the initiative, the telecom asset manager said in an email to The PUNCH on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Senior Vice President and Chief Corporate Services Officer at IHS Nigeria, Dapo Otunla, said the programme fulfilled a commitment the company made when it launched the initiative in November 2025 to support the FCT Administration’s efforts to reduce household air pollution.
“When we launched this initiative in November 2025, we committed to supporting the FCT administration in reducing household air pollution and improving the health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities. Today, we are proud to celebrate the successful fulfilment of that commitment,” Otunla said, representing the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamad Darwish.
