František Mozner says discussions with judges outside normal working hours are not unusual.
Supreme Court President František Mozner has rejected claims that he influenced the court’s decision to overturn the conviction of former special prosecutor Dušan Kováčik, saying judges cannot be instructed on how to rule.
The controversy centres on an evening meeting Mozner had with Judge Martina Zeleňáková in her office shortly before a Supreme Court panel ruled in December 2025 to overturn Kováčik’s corruption conviction. Zeleňáková chaired the five-member panel that granted Kováčik’s appeal.
It was Supreme Court Judge Juraj Kliment who first pointed to the meeting, along with other concerns about the case.
Mozner confirmed that the meeting took place but said he did not remember its details. He described the encounter as a “coincidence” and said discussions with judges outside regular working hours were not unusual.
