Maddy Olson had never tiled anything before when she set out to tile the two bathrooms in her new home. That wasn't going to stop her, though. Olson and her husband have been building their first home together, doing as much of the work as possible themselves to cut costs.Through trial and error, the Olsons pulled it off. They built their home in Washington in about 9 months, sticking to their budget so their monthly mortgage payments could be less than $1,000.
