Insider Brief

The U.S. National Science Foundation launched Project Triad, an initiative to integrate quantum sensing, quantum networking and quantum computing into a single operational system to accelerate real-world applications and commercialization.

Project Triad will be supported by three programs — the NSF National Quantum Virtual Laboratory, NSF X-Labs and NSF Quantum+X — that will bring together government, academia and industry to develop, test and scale integrated quantum technologies.

The initiative targets applications including GPS-independent navigation, secure communications, resource exploration and precision medicine while strengthening U.S. economic competitiveness, national security and the quantum workforce.

PRESS RELEASE — The U.S. National Science Foundation today announced Project Triad, a first-of-its-kind initiative to integrate quantum sensing, quantum networking and quantum computing into a single operational system. By bringing these three capabilities together for the first time, Project Triad will move quantum technology out of the lab and into real-world use — with applications spanning safety, healthcare, energy, manufacturing and more.
