July 7 (UPI) -- The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked an effort by a conservative activist who challenged the legitimacy of the 2020 election to get guardianship records to find ineligible voters in the state.
Ron Heuer, leader of Wisconsin Voters Alliance, filed the suit in 2022. He wanted records of people who had been placed under guardianship to verify that they were eligible to vote.
The court ruled 5-2 that Heuer was not entitled to the records. The judges in the majority were four liberal and one conservative. Two conservatives dissented.
Justice Janet Protasiewicz, in the majority opinion, said the ruling "is rooted in the legislature's choice to protect the privacy of individuals subject to guardianship proceedings."
