A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to an effective 30 years' direct imprisonment by the Tlhabane Magistrates' Court after being convicted of raping a woman and robbing a young couple in Freedom Park in November 2023.
A 30-year-old man who raped a woman and robbed a young couple during a violent attack in Freedom Park has been sentenced to an effective 30 years' direct imprisonment by the Tlhabane Magistrates' Court.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said Thabang Letsholo was sentenced on July 1 2026 after being found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances, rape and kidnapping stemming from an attack that took place on 17 November 2023.
According to police, Letsholo confronted a young couple in Freedom Park during the evening, before raping the female victim and robbing the pair of a cellphone, a laptop and their shoes.
He was arrested two days after the incident and remained in custody until his conviction on 29 June 2026.
