Evan Roos during the Springboks training ahead of the 2026 International Rugby match against Scotland where he will get his chance at No 8.
There is no one better qualified to run the rule over the Springbok No 8 contenders than Duane Vermeulen, who has given a rundown on what Evan Roos has to get right on Saturday against Scotland to impress the coaching staff.
Vermeulen was addressing the media on Tuesday. The Great Duane also showed the skills of a Sacha Feinberg Mngomezulu in dummying a question about Henry Pollock. But first, his observations of the Bok No 8s.
“First of all, Jasper Wiese is proving to be a real stalwart in our team. He is one of the guys who gives us a great advantage in getting over the gain line and giving us those front-foot carries. He is a massive asset to the squad.
“But we want to give everyone in the squad a chance to play, and this week it is Evan Roos’ opportunity to put up his hand and say, ‘Listen, I am also here.’ This is a good game for Evan to show his worth and the impact he can have.
