The Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday approved NS Vishwanathan's re-appointment as the non-executive chairman of Axis Bank for a for a further three year period from October 27, 2026 to October 26, 2029. The central bank however said that the extension of the term would be subject to Vishwanatha's re-appointment as an independent director. The former central banker, who retired as deputy governor in March 2020, has been serving as the part time chairman at the private sector lender since October 27, 2023. The proposal for his reappointment is included in the notice for the bank's 32nd annual general meeting scheduled at July 31, the bank said in a regulatory filing.
