His family released a tribute through Dyfed-Powys Police, expressing their heartbreak and describing Umar as a 'loving boy' whose death has left a 'devastating hole' in their lives. Emergency services were called to the River Wye on June 30 after reports of an 18-year-old entering the water and not being found, with his body later located after a search involving mountain rescue and fire services. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme expressed deep sadness over the incident, confirming they are liaising with Umar's college and relevant authorities to understand the circumstances and offering full support. Leyton Sixth Form College, where Umar was a student, has launched a Gofundme page to help his family with funeral expenses, remembering him for his kindness and positive impact.
