Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) announced that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) would establish its first campus in Indonesia, describing the initiative as a major step towards strengthening educational ties and benefiting students across the ASEAN region.The announcement was made during Mr. Modi’s visit to Indonesia in a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The proposed campus will be set up at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Malang and is aimed at advancing the internationalisation of India’s higher education ecosystem.The campus will offer programmes focused on emerging areas such as global supply chains, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate and sustainability, and healthcare management. The curriculum will also include interactions with industry leaders, eminent academicians and global experts.The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will begin with executive education programmes for senior executives, business leaders and public sector professionals. Subject to its successful implementation over the first two years, the second phase will introduce degree-granting management programmes.The initiative will be implemented through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between IIM Bangalore and PT Intelegensia Grahatama (PT IGT), the managing and development entity of the Singhasari SEZ.
