Al Bello / Getty ImagesJuly 7, 2026 Updated 12:06 pm EDTNew York Knicks star Jalen Brunson underwent surgery to repair an injured left wrist that caused him discomfort during New York’s push to the NBA title, league sources confirmed to The Athletic.He is expected to resume basketball activities later this summer.Despite the discomfort, the All-NBA guard averaged 28.4 points during the Knicks’ dominant run to their first NBA title in 53 years — including 45 points in Game 5 that closed out the 4-1 series win over the San Antonio Spurs. Brunson was named MVP of the NBA Finals.Brunson’s injury, barring setbacks, isn’t expected to linger into training camp, per league sources.The Knicks will try to repeat as NBA champions with essentially the same roster as last season. The team re-signed Landry Shamet, Jose Alvarado and Mohamed Diawara this offseason. The only substantial change thus far is replacing center Mitchell Robinson, who left to join the Boston Celtics in free agency, with veteran Andre Drummond.In his four seasons in New York, Brunson has already established himself as a franchise great, averaging 26.3 points and 6.8 assists while leading New York to back-to-back Eastern Conference finals appearances and an NBA title.
