Elektron Renewables has boosted the solar capacity at Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, to approximately 1.5 MWp.
The expansion adds 902.4 kWp of new solar capacity, bringing the mall’s total installed capacity to 1,502.4 kWp. This makes Jabi Lake Mall the largest rooftop solar installation on a shopping mall in West Africa.
The expanded solar project is expected to meet 70 percent of the mall’s power demand, generating an estimated 110,000 kWh of electricity each month. This translates to approximately 1,320 MWh annually, significantly reducing the mall’s reliance on grid power.
Jabi Lake Mall is one of Nigeria’s leading retail destinations, receives over 500,000 visitors monthly, and has 100 retail outlets. The solar expansion aligns with the mall’s efforts to reduce energy costs and promote sustainability in Nigeria’s retail sector.
Sianny Ayodele, head of Elektron Renewables, noted that the project demonstrated that renewable energy has become critical infrastructure for commercial and industrial businesses.
