The Reform UK party leader has come under scrutiny about his finances

British hard-right politician Nigel Farage announced on Tuesday he would resign as a member of parliament to run in a snap by-election, in a high-stakes gamble following weeks of scrutiny over his finances.

“I’ve decided that the people of Clacton should be the judges of my actions,” he said, referring to the southeast England constituency he has represented for two years. “This will be a people versus the establishment by-election,” he added in a televised statement.
