The Tamil Nadu Child Rights Watch (TNCRW) has sought the intervention of the Tamil Nadu government and the State Commission for Women to protect the safety, dignity, and educational rights of a survivor of child sexual abuse and to uphold the safety of women students studying at the YMCA College of Physical Education.The TNCRW, citing the sexual abuse complaints under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, against George Abraham, who has reportedly been reinstated as the Principal of the YMCA College of Physical Education, with effect from May 19.The TNCRW listed the various sexual misconduct cases pending against Abraham and warned that his reinstatement of raises grave concerns regarding the safety of women students and the confidence of survivors in institutional grievance redress mechanisms.The TNCRW wants the TNSCW to conduct an inquiry into the reinstatement, call for a detailed report from college management explaining the legal and administrative basis for reinstating the accused despite the pendency of a criminal prosecution under the POCSO Act, and monitor the implementation of survivor protection measures in the institution.
