Lithuania’s State Commission for Cultural Heritage is seeking information about cultural heritage sites abroad that are significant to the country.
The commission said it aims to expand the “U-Paveldas” database with information about Lithuanian-related cultural heritage around the world and is inviting Lithuanian and foreign Lithuanian communities, embassies, researchers and travellers to contribute.
“Lithuanian heritage around the world is often hidden in plain sight – in a street name, the walls of a church, old cemeteries, a family archive or a community story. We invite people to become heritage detectives and help discover Lithuania in places where its traces have not yet been marked on the map,” commission Chairwoman Vaidutė Ščiglienė said.
The commission said the national platform currently contains nearly 800 objects from different countries, including churches, cemeteries, monuments, archives and works of art, as well as Lithuanian place names, community centres and other markers of collective memory.
People can submit information about a wide range of Lithuanian-related heritage sites abroad, including buildings, cemeteries, monuments, memorial sites, museum collections, archival materials, works of art, Lithuanian place names, community activity centres and other cultural heritage objects.
