Foreign minister Antonion Tajani has welcomed the choice of Rome as the next venue for US-facilitated direct peace negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, calling the Italian capital "a crossroads of peace and dialogue".
"Rome, a meeting place for peace and dialogue. We warmly welcome the announcement of the convening of the next round of talks between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the United States, in the Italian capital, Rome," Tajani wrote Tuesday on X.In April, Tajani told the Lebanese and Israeli governments "of Italy's readiness to contribute to supporting the path of dialogue for peace in the region and to host the negotiations," the post continued."The selection of Rome is the fruit of our government's strong diplomatic commitment, and of the reliable and effective role it plays on the international political scene," the post concluded.
