A 34-year-old woman with recurrent, life-threatening uterine bleeding caused by a bilateral uterine arteriovenous malformation (AVM) was successfully treated by doctors at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Tiruchi after multiple failed surgeries performed elsewhere.Using bilateral femoral arterial access via the Seldinger technique, selective pelvic angiography identified the AVM supplied by both uterine arteries.Super-selective catheterisation followed by bilateral uterine artery embolisation achieved complete occlusion of the lesion without complications. The patient recovered uneventfully, avoiding hysterectomy and preserving her uterus and fertility. The successful outcome exemplified collaboration between the Departments of Gynaecology and Radiology, supported by effective leadership and coordination from the hospital administration, said the release.
