ATLANTA — Braves manager Walt Weiss typically starts every postgame news conference with an opening statement, regardless of win or loss. But after Atlanta’s 7-6 defeat in 10 innings to the New York Mets on Monday night, the skipper took the podium with a stern look and only said two words.“Go ahead.”It was one of the most frustrating losses of the season for the Braves, who went 4-3 on their seven-game homestand this past week, and it culminated in the ninth inning. With two outs and runners on the corners, Raisel Iglesias, who had converted 35 consecutive saves dating to last season, faced Juan Soto. After Soto worked a 3-1 count, instead of choosing to walk the slugger, the Braves chose to attack him. Iglesias unleashed a 95 mph fastball at the corner of the zone. Soto sent it 430 feet into the chop house to give the Mets a 5-3 lead and end the longest save streak in the majors.“It’s tough to put the winning run, go-ahead run at second base,” Weiss said about the decision to pitch to Soto. “(We) thought about it, and we got to 3-1, probably didn’t want to get that much of the plate with the pitch. That’s what goes into that decision.”
