Anti-illegal immigration organisations marched to Parliament in Cape Town on Monday, calling on the government to respond to memorandums they say have gone unanswered.

Among the groups taking part in the demonstration were March and March, Operation Dudula, and Concerned Citizens, whose members gathered in the city centre before making their way to Parliament.

Organisers said the march was prompted by what they described as a lack of response from Parliament after they previously submitted memorandums on illegal immigration and border enforcement.

Concerned Citizens chairperson Siyabulela Felim said one of the group's earlier submissions proposed that citizens work alongside immigration authorities to help identify undocumented foreign nationals.

"We said if immigration doesn't have enough budget, powers or manpower, we are here as citizens to help," Felim said.
