PORTUGAL captain Cristiano Ronaldo is missing just the Fifa World Cup trophy in his cabinet.

The missing and easily one of the most prestigious piece in Cristiano Ronaldo's long-list of achievements - the FIFA World Cup, has eluded him once again.

Having made his debut at FIFA's 2006 quadrennial tournament in Germany, Ronald has not been able to inspire his nation Portugal to lift the famous trophy at the subsequent editions, including the latest version being hosted jointly by the USA, Mexico and Canada.

The elusive dream it ended once again with tears for Ronaldo when Portugal were dumped out of the tournament on Sunday after a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16.

The winning goal came deep into stoppage time when substitute Mikel Merino found the net in the 91st minute at Dallas Stadium, leaving Portugal with no time to respond.
