Joint venture between Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin will establish a European manufacturing hub for the long-range tactical missile

The US and Germany will unveil a ATACMS missile production hub at the NATO summit in Ankara on Tuesday.

The US administration and the German government have announced plans to establish a European production centre for the tactical ballistic missile ATACMS during the NATO summit, marking a major step in transatlantic defence industrial cooperation.

After months of uncertainty surrounding the project, it has now been confirmed that ATACMS missiles will be manufactured at Rheinmetall’s facility in Unterlüß, northern Germany. The move will make it the first time that a US weapons system in this category is produced entirely outside the US.

The planned joint venture between German defence contractor Rheinmetall and US manufacturer Lockheed Martin will establish a European centre of excellence for the production, integration and delivery of ATACMS missiles for NATO members and allied European armed forces.
