But there’s a catch – it’s three hours from Perth and requires a little bit of tender love and care.Lot 52 Nelson Street, Buntine is on the market for just $22,000.Shire of DalwallinuThe Shire of Dalwallinu is on the hunt for a buyer for a property in Buntine, 254 kilometres north of Perth, that was once the former home of the Buntine Country Women’s Association.Chief executive Jean Knight said the shire was looking to sell the council-owned property at Lot 52 Nelson Street, as it was no longer needed by the local government.“The building was previously used as the Buntine CWA Hall but has not been utilised for many years,” Knight said.Lot 52 Nelson Street, Buntine is on the market for just $22,000.Shire of DalwallinuShe said the property – built in 1949 – is not a standard home, but instead a building with two rooms that was run down and ready for redevelopment.“It is not a house. It is a two-roomed building – an old kitchen and one large room previously used as the meeting hall, with an outhouse and no bathroom,” she said.“Council is seeking to recover the purchase of the land from the state government.”The property is prime land for buyers who want to live regionally – something Knight says the shire is actively hoping will happen from the sale of the block.“We are hoping to attract a buyer that will renovate/develop the property and live in Buntine, or use the property as a base,” she said.The council will consider offers from $22,000 – which works out to $21.74 per square metre – with the highest or any offer not necessarily accepted.In comparison, a 168sqm plot of land in the City of Cockburn, in Perth’s coastal south, almost the size of half a tennis court would set buyers back at least $399,000 – or $2375 per square metre.Buyers will have the ability to demolish or renovate the building as there is no heritage listing attached to the property.The property is currently serviced with electricity and water, but there is no deep sewerage to the lot, and therefore properties would need to be serviced by septic tanks.The listing description states that septic tanks are on-site however have not been utilised for many years and will require servicing.A little about Dalwallinu and BuntineLocated three hours north from Perth via the Great Northern Highway, Dalwallinu is a Wheatbelt settlement and is part of WA’s famous “wildflower way”.The property needs some work, but can be demolished or renovated by the future owner.Shire of DalwallinuBetween July and October, towns between Dalwallinu and Mullewa boast beautiful wildflowers that blanket the countryside – making it known as a flora hotspot for nature enthusiasts every year.The Dalwallinu area is also known for its Wattle trees which can be seen brightening up road sides and tourist areas with their vibrant yellow colours. There’s even a festival dedicated to them in September.As of the 2021 census there were 1379 people who lived in the Shire of Dalwallinu, 51 of whom lived in Buntine.On the shire’s website, the town is described as “a support centre to the cropping and sheep farms of the district, and home to flourishing businesses and a diverse and growing community.”Other towns within the shire are Pithara, Kalannie and Wubin.The shire will accept offers for Lot 52, Nelson Street up to August 14.Property listingsFrom our partners
