A Ghaziabad police constable was booked on Sunday for allegedly attempting to murder his wife by beating and strangling her last month, police said.The couple got married in March 2012 and on June 26 this year, the constable called the woman’s family to inform that she tried to kill herself and he is taking her to a hospital. (Representational image)On the basis of a complaint filed by the 32-year-old woman’s father, an FIR was registered against the accused under BNS sections 85 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 109 (attempt to murder) at Vijay Nagar police station on July 5.DCP (city) Dhawal Jaiswal said no arrest has been made so far, and an investigation is underway.According to the FIR, the couple got married in March 2012 and on June 26 this year, the constable called the woman’s family to inform that she tried to kill herself and he is taking her to a hospital.“When we reached the hospital, my daughter was on ventilator support. Three days later, when she regained consciousness, she told me that her husband had been in a relationship with another woman for the past 3-4 years. Due to this, he used to beat up my daughter and tried to kill her in the past too,” the woman’s father stated in the FIR, also seen by HT.On the day of the incident, they had a fight about the issue and the man allegedly beat her up and later strangled her with a dupatta, the FIR read.“The police have registered an FIR under relevant sections upon complaint given by the woman’s father. An investigation is underway,” DCP Jaiswal said.The FIR also mentioned that the accused is posted in the rural zone. DCP (rural zone) Surendra Nath Tiwari said, “We are awaiting a report from the city zone officials. Based on the report, appropriate action will be taken.”
