Nigerian sprint sensation Kayinsola Ajayi says equalling his own national record has only strengthened his belief that faster times are within reach after claiming a landmark victory at the 2026 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 21-year-old stormed to victory in the men’s 100m at Hayward Field on Saturday, clocking 9.84s to edge reigning world champion Oblique Seville of Jamaica, who finished second in 9.89s. American Olympian Christian Coleman placed third in 9.95s, narrowly ahead of compatriot Kenneth Bednarek, who ran 9.96s.
Ajayi’s winning time equalled the Nigerian record of 9.84s that he first set in May, further underlining his rapid rise as one of the world’s leading sprinters.
“Equalling the national record again means a lot. That means I can do better and I feel great about that,” Ajayi told FloTrack.
