The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Nwoko Gift, for allegedly attempting to kill her 12-year-old niece, Ebo Chimamanda, with a kitchen knife.
The arrest followed a viral video circulating on social media showing a woman attempting to harm a young girl with a knife.
The shaky, high-angle video showed Gift kneeling over the girl, who was lying face-down on a concrete floor, while repeatedly striking and restraining her with a kitchen knife in her hand.
The girl was heard crying and repeatedly shouting, “Aunty no,” as she struggled beneath the woman before a man in a light-coloured shirt intervened and pulled the woman away.
