A possible ceasefire in Ukraine would not mean an automatic return to normal relations between Europe and Russia, as the current Russian regime has deliberately chosen a course of long-term confrontation with the West.

Robin Wagener, chair of the German-Ukrainian Parliamentary Group and a member of the Bundestag from the Alliance ’90/The Greens party, made this statement in an interview with Ukrinform.

“That is precisely why I consider those who hope that a possible ceasefire in Ukraine will automatically mean a return to ‘business as usual’ in relations with Russia to be naive,” said Wagener.

According to him, the current Russian regime has deliberately chosen the path of a long-term conflict with the democratic West.

“The leadership in Moscow rejects the fundamental principles of our free and democratic societies. For us, however, freedom, democracy, and the rule of law cannot be compromised,” the lawmaker noted.
