The automobile sector retailed 25,57,234 units in June 2026, a 21.83% year-on-year (YoY) growth and a 1.03% increase over the previous month. The passenger vehicles (PV) segment registered a 28.63% growth, followed by tractors at 25.31%, two-wheelers (2W) 21.22%, commercial vehicles (CV) 16.88% and three-wheelers (3W) at 16.20%.However, the wheeled construction equipment segment registered a 40.94% YoY decline on a high base, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) on Monday (July 6, 2026).“June 2026 has been a landmark month for Indian auto retail with two-wheelers, three-wheelers, commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and overall registrations posting their highest-ever June figures,” said FADA president C.S. Vigneshwar.Tractor retail sales stood at 1,00,818 units, a growth of 25.31% YoY and 21.33% MoM.“Tractors recorded their second-best June ever. That such records have come in a seasonally transitional month underscores the structural depth of the India growth story and the widening aspirations of Bharat,” he added.Two-wheeler retail sales stood at 18,28,458 units, up 21.22% YoY — the best June ever — though marginally lower by 0.89% month on month (MoM).The urban two-wheeler segment grew 4.25% MoM, while rural sales declined 4.55% MoM, reflecting the late onset and uneven progress of the south-west monsoon, which kept rain-fed markets in a wait-and-watch mode.Commercial vehicle retails were at 90,972 units, a 16.88% YoY growth and the best June on record for the segment. Light commercial vehicles (LCVs) grew 21.10% YoY, medium commercial vehicles 16.81% and heavy commercial vehicles at 8.26%.Dealers cited steady freight activity, e-commerce-linked movement and normalising supplies.Share of commercial electric vehicles (EVs) rose to an all-time high of 3.53% from 1.57% a year ago.Passenger vehicle retail sales stood at 4,10,853 units, a growth of 28.63% YoY and 2.05% MoM.Share of alternative-fuel PVs — CNG, Hybrid and EV combined — crossed the 40% mark for the first time, at 40.35% (CNG 24.33%, Hybrid 8.27%, EV 7.75%).Passenger EV retail sales stood at an all-time high of 31,823 units.The total EV retail sales across categories touched 3,06,220 units — the highest for any month — taking the overall EV penetration to about 12.5%.
