Murphy, the Braves’ No. 11 prospect, according to Keith Law, is expected to join the team Monday. He is slated to pitch out of the bullpen. The 22-year-old had a 3.88 ERA with 65 strikeouts and 20 walks in 60 1/3 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett after starting five games in Double-A Columbus to begin the season. The Braves selected Murphy with the No. 20 pick of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Riverside-Brooks High School (Illinois). Murphy had Tommy John surgery in 2024, but returned in 2025 and has continued to pitch well.He has a three-pitch mix with a fastball that sits at 91-92 mph, which is slower than most but plays well because of its flat-angle approach. He also has a mid-80s slider and mid-70s curveball.Murphy takes the place of Martín Pérez on the active roster. Pérez was placed on the injured list with a left forearm contusion after getting hit by a comebacker from Juan Soto in Sunday’s 10-9 loss. In addition, JR Ritchie, who pitched three scoreless innings and recorded the save in Saturday’s 14-3 win, was recalled, while Carlos Carrasco was designated for assignment for the sixth time this season.Jul 6, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
