I’m Levi Weaver — welcome to The Windup!1.0: All-Star Rosters announcedOver the weekend, MLB celebrated the Fourth of July by dropping version 1.0 of the All-Star rosters. I say it that way because injuries and starting pitchers’ schedules will definitely lead to changes. We’ll get to the snubs later. First, here’s the story with the full rosters. And here are a few thoughts from me on what voters got right when it comes to the starters:American League
What voters got right: Most of it, especially Byron Buxton getting his first starting nod.
What they got wrong: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. won the fan vote to start the game — he has four home runs this year — but he has already said he’s not participating. Nick Kurtz has been the best first baseman in the game and will start in Guerrero’s place. Also, not to pick on the Blue Jays, but Ernie Clement’s 1.0 fWAR is fourth among seven qualifying AL second basemen. He got more votes than anyone else in the AL.
