Adeyemi shared screenshots of a message she sent to actor Amandla Stenberg, telling her not to use her name in interviews or contact her, suggesting Stenberg has been blocked. The message to Stenberg, who is cast as Princess Amari, appears to have been sent after some fans criticised her casting and Stenberg had previously stated Adeyemi supported it. In a TikTok video and Instagram messages, Adeyemi stated she would not watch the film and that none of the "final decisions" were made by her, citing pain and attacks behind the scenes. The film, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and featuring a cast including Stenberg, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo, Regina King, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, is scheduled for release in January 2027.
