Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Syrian President Ahmad Al Shara at the Nato summit in Ankara on Wednesday.

Syria has repeatedly rejected US pressure to intervene militarily in Lebanon, despite Washington's insistence the pressure is "real".

A planned Washington meeting between the two leaders last month was cancelled, with the White House citing scheduling reasons.

Damascus and Beirut have been rebuilding bilateral relations since rebel forces toppled former Syrian president Bashar Al Assad in December 2024.
