The person bought a standard meal deal from Greggs but couldn't believe the price, with some critiquing the items bought from the popular food chain for their lunch10:08, 06 Jul 2026Greggs is a perfect one-stop shop for a tasty lunchtime treat, because you can pack your carrier bag full of goodies, including savoury, sweet, and even delicious drinks, like matcha.Plus, it's well known for its low prices; however, in recent years, consumers have complained the costs of items like sausage rolls have gone up. Sausage rolls in 2016 used to set you back just 85p, whereas now, if you want a hit of flaky pastry and delightfully seasoned sausage, you'll have to pay £1.35. That is a 59% price increase over a 10-year window, which seems quite significant. But when one student posted their Greggs meal deal on Reddit's Meal Deal Rates forum, people were quick to share whether they thought they managed to get a bargain, or not. They managed to get their hands on a baguette sandwich, a Diet Coke, a sausage roll, and potato wedges, along with ketchup and mayo. The person explained: "The baguette, drink and wedges came as a meal deal for £5.25. The Vegan Sausage Roll was free with the student offer, so the total paid was £5.25."In the comments, people quickly praised how the meal deal was great value and said: "You know what? For the price, you definitely win there. 10 on food selection."Another gushed: "That’s amazing for that price. Better than a premium meal deal at Tesco that costs £5.50."Others pointed out edits they'd make to the meal deal, as one said: "7/10, a different baguette and drink would bump it up for me. Vegan rolls are great!" A second wrote: "Switch the drink to Cherry Coke Zero, and it's 10/10 for me."But others would have the meal deal exactly as it was and said they'd "eat this exact combination".Somebody shared: "Actually, a pretty solid meal. I’m not rating because I’m just an American lurker who is very fascinated by the great carry-out, take-out, and grocery store meal cultures you guys have."The closest we come to anything remotely good is from the Publix deli, and there, just half a sub is $8.99 (£6.73), so colour me jealous that you guys get such awesome stuff at the grocery store."Article continues belowBut not everyone was impressed as one Reddit said: "Nah. Greggs is merely meh at best. I always look for an alternative. Avoiding the pasty tax doesn’t work for me."I’d rather pay pennies more and have hot savouries from the likes of Shell or BP. Everything looks anaemic from there as well. If you enjoyed it, I’m pleased, but you’re welcome to it."It just shows you that meal deal choice is so personal, and you can't please everyone!
