Labour MPs are already fearing for their jobs over likely soon-to-be prime minister Andy Burnham’s plans to split his time between London and the North, The i Paper understands.
It is thought that Burnham – who, if no challengers emerge, is set to be installed in No 10 before the end of July – plans to divide his time between Downing Street and Greater Manchester.
Last week, he announced his intention to set up a new “No 10 North” unit from the city as part of what he has described as the “biggest rebalancing of power our country has ever seen”.

Should he choose not to make Downing Street his primary residence, he would be the first prime minister since Harold Wilson not to live there full-time, and the first to spend such significant time away from London since Lord Salisbury at the end of the 19th century.
