We are experiencing heavy winds and flooding here... Some people are already reporting major damages," said Lou Rosario, public information officer at the Rota Municipal Operations Center.Rosario added that some cellphone services were disrupted after a communications tower collapsed.Island could be uninhabitable for weeksBefore landfall, the NWS warned that a direct hit from the Category 5-equivalent storm could leave much of Rota "uninhabitable for weeks, perhaps longer."Forecasters said the storm was capable of snapping nearly all trees, destroying buildings and causing prolonged power outages lasting weeks or even months.Although the storm's centre moved westward later in the day, residents across Guam, Saipan and Tinian continued to face dangerous conditions, including hurricane-force winds, heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
