He maintained that while representing Nigeria on the global stage was an honour, it was equally important to draw the world's attention to the country's security challenges.

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has defended his decision to highlight the plight of abducted Nigerian schoolchildren during his performance at the FIFA 2026 World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles, saying he deliberately used his global platform to draw attention to the country's worsening insecurity and the continued captivity of missing students.

The singer, who faced criticism from some quarters after performing in a jacket emblazoned with the words "Bring Them Home" and the names of the 46 abducted pupils and teachers from Oyo State, said he could not remain silent to protect Nigeria's image while innocent children were still being held captive.

Explaining the motivation behind his action in an interview with BBC's Focus on Africa, Davido said, "A lot of people do not want to talk about what goes on in my country simply you want to protect the image. But there is no image to protect if little kids are being kidnapped."
