Two years ago, the annual celebrations of Saints Cyril and Methodius at Devín Castle in Bratislava marked the first time Prime Minister Robert Fico had delivered a public speech since surviving the assassination attempt in Handlová.
The Smer party leader used the occasion to attack the media and the opposition, calling for the construction of a "bulwark against progressivism".
The Byzantine brothers Cyril and Methodius arrived in Great Moravia in the 9th century to educate local clergy and strengthen the realm's place within Christian Europe. They did not come to convert a pagan land. Christianity had already reached Great Moravia from the West.
