Brazil and Norway both played here in the group stage. Brazil drew 1-1 with Morocco in their tournament opener, while Norway hung on for a 3-2 win over Senegal in their second match. MetLife Stadium also hosted France’s 3-0 cruise past Sweden in the round of 32.Our venue today Getty ImagesFor the second year in a row MetLife Stadium will host a major FIFA final, having hosted the Club World Cup showpiece this time last year. The 82,500-capacity arena was opened in 2010, primarily host of New York City’s two NFL teams — the New York Giants and New York Jets. It was built with adjustable stands so the field can meet FIFA regulations for football. The regular surface is artificial turf but has been replaced with grass, which drew some criticism from high-profile players and coaches earlier in this tournament. While travel out to New Jersey could prove a bit of a headache for fans, there is no shortage of things to do in New York City for those based there. For FIFA purposes, it has been officially renamed the rather longwinded New York New Jersey Stadium for the duration of the tournament — including the World Cup final, which it will host on July 19.
