King Frederik X of Denmark has been spotted sitting in the Royal Box at Wimbledon today with his surgeon friend.The tennis-mad monarch, who is a regular at Wimbledon, and one of his closest pals Christian von Buchwald sat down to watch 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in action.Sat to the right of them in the front row of Centre Court was British former tennis player and sports executive Deborah Jevans and British former field hockey player and academic Dr Mark Precious.On their left, they were joined by English cricket administrator and former player Sir Andrew John Strauss and his eldest son Samuel Strauss.Mr Buchwald and his wife Elisabeth are part of King Frederik and his wife Queen Mary's inner circle of friends.He was even chosen to become one of their daughter Princess Isabella's six godparents when she was baptised in 2007.King Frederik, 58, met him when he was assigned as his tennis coach after he returned from his French boarding school, then aged 15.Living in the Danish city of Aarhus, they formed a bond over their shared love of the game and have been close friends ever since. Last year, King Frederik made a low-key appearance in No. 1 Court where he watched the match between Chile's Nicolas Jarry and Britain's Cameron Norrie.He joined Prince Edward's wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, in the Royal Box the following day Although he was not present at Wimbledon in 2024, he did attend in 2023 when he watched the Women's Singles fourth round match between Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil and Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.The then prince was also present to see Danish Holger Rune's victory against Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov on No. 1 Court. King Frederik and Queen Mary are close with Prince William and Princess Catherine, with their friendship spanning over a decade.
