Recreational fishing will be temporarily prohibited in parts of Zandvlei Nature Reserve this weekend while the South African Canoe Marathon Championships take place.
The City of Cape Town has issued a protected area notice banning fishing in the Park Island and Zandvlei Resort sections of the reserve, as well as the surrounding waters, from Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 5, inclusive.
The temporary restriction has been introduced to ensure the safety of competitors taking part in the 2026 South African Canoe Marathon Championships and to prevent interference with races being held throughout the event.
The notice will be displayed at the entrances to Park Island and the Zandvlei Resort, where City staff will also be present to ensure compliance.
