Scott McTominay continues to shine in Serie A with Napoli and the Italian side have made a move to secure his long-term future despite suggestions that he could return to Manchester United11:41, 05 Jul 2026Napoli are prepared to make Scott McTominay one of their highest-paid players to keep him at the club. The Scottish midfielder has impressed in Naples since his move from Manchester United in 2024.‌McTominay, 29, has two years left on his current deal in Serie A and has been linked with moves elsewhere. But it appears that Napoli chiefs are determined to keep him at the club no matter the cost.‌According to Gazzetta dello Sport, they will offer the midfielder a new deal until 2030 and will give him a considerable wage increase that will see him become one of the highest earners at the club.‌McTominay’s future was potentially up in the air following Antonio Conte’s exit, but they remain keen to extend his stay following Max Allegri’s appointment. Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly already told director Giovanni Manna to launch formal talks with McTominay’s camp.It is suggested that the Scotland star is happy to remain in Naples. Speaking last year, he said: “I am extremely happy here and, as far as I am concerned, I am a Napoli player. It is all I think about.“The future is very important, and I could see myself in Napoli for a long time. I love this place. Difficulties have been minimal, my family is happy and I’m happy.”‌Despite the move to extend McTominay’s contract, Napoli chief Leonardo Giammarioli admitted back in February that he was concerned about keeping him. Speaking with talkSPORT, he said: “Yeah, of course I’m worried.“But ultimately, especially Scott, who’s a very nice guy, we’re happy if he gets to the next level in a couple of years – maybe not now, maybe not next year, but he deserves it.‌“Look at Stuttgart, they wanted to keep Nick Woltemade, but when such an offer comes in, there’s not much you can do, when the player wants to go and money is important.”He added: “It’s a bit complicated for Serie A and our competitive clubs…the league is still making losses in revenue. Of course, it’s hard to keep up with the other big four leagues, but we’re trying to improve and be competitive.“Keeping players is difficult, it wasn’t easy to get them, it’s even harder to keep them.
