Dumfries has signed a four-year deal Marco Luzzani/Getty ImagesJuly 5, 2026 6:17 am EDT Updated Real Madrid have completed the signing of right-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter.The Athletic reported on June 2 that Madrid had made Dumfries, 30, their top target to strengthen at right-back, with their desired right-back profile this summer a second-choice option to Trent Alexander-Arnold.Madrid confirmed the Netherlands international’s arrival on a four-year deal through to 2030 in a club statement on Sunday.Dumfries was under contract at Inter until 2028 and had a €20million (£21.6m; $29.1m) release clause.
Madrid have already been active in the summer transfer window since the return of Jose Mourinho as head coach.The club have completed the signings of Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva as free agents following their deals expiring at Liverpool and Manchester City respectively, and they have also signed Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.Mourinho has asked for a right-back to provide competition for Alexander-Arnold, who is the club’s only senior recognised right-back following the expiration of Dani Carvajal’s contract.Dumfries played every minute of the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign, which concluded with a last-32 stage penalty shootout loss to Morocco.He made 28 appearances for Inter during the 2025-26 campaign, registering five goals and two assists, despite a spell out with an ankle injury that required surgery.Dumfries spent five years at Inter after joining the club from PSV in 2021.
