Fresh violence erupted across parts of Mali on Saturday as explosions and heavy gunfire were reported in several towns following coordinated attacks by insurgents, underscoring the worsening security situation in the conflict-ridden West African nation.
A Tuareg-led insurgent group claimed responsibility for an attack on the northern town of Anefis, where Malian government troops and Russian paramilitary forces are stationed, while residents and local officials also reported gunfire and explosions in other northern and central parts of the country.
