Anger and frustration swept through the Mowe/Ofada Market in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday after traders alleged that government officials demolished the market in the early hours of the day without prior notice, leaving hundreds of business owners counting huge losses.

The demolition, which reportedly commenced around 2am, displaced scores of traders who arrived at the market later in the morning to find their shops levelled and goods buried beneath the rubble.

The affected traders claimed that the exercise was carried out without any formal demolition notice, despite previous engagements with officials of the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning.
