According to him, the rescued victims have been taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Weeks after abductors demanded huge ransoms and held church worshippers captive despite receiving millions of naira from their community, the Ekiti State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of the victims kidnapped during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda-Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state.

The victims had been in captivity since April 28, 2026, when suspected gunmen stormed an overnight worship service, killed the presiding pastor and whisked away 16 worshippers, including women, children and an elderly woman.

Their ordeal drew widespread concern after the kidnappers initially demanded a ₦1 billion ransom, later reducing it to ₦50 million.

Although the community reportedly raised and paid ₦10.5 million alongside other items demanded by the abductors, the victims remained in captivity, prompting protests by residents and a resolution by the House of Representatives calling for their immediate rescue.
